Want to knit up a drawer full of colorful, fun socks? Read on!
You might be surprised to learn that knitting socks looks much harder than it actually is. I was a knitter for well over a decade before I attempted them, thinking (incorrectly) that socks were some kind of mystical knitting magic that only the bravest, best, most daring of knitters could possible execute.
It turns out I was just being really, really dumb (HUGE surprise to anyone who knows me!). Granted, my first pair were a lumpy, sad disaster with a heel that somehow ended up in the arch of my foot, BUT my second pair was entirely wearable! And then I found myself knitting nothing but socks, and here I am, aged 40 (almost), surrounded by piles of socks, piles of sock yarn, and heaps of sock knitting needles. Beware, dear reader, for sock knitting is a highly addictive activity to engage in.
I’ve drafted a free pattern for beginners looking to get started, which I’ll embed below. This will teach you everything you need to know to knit a pair of basic socks using my preferred method, Magic Loop. Yes, theoretically you can knit socks on double-pointed needles, but frankly I hate those fussy little sticks. If DPNs make you happy however, then by all means knit with them! But I find Magic Loop free of fuss, and thus I will be a Magic Loop loyalist until the day I die.
Along with the pattern, I’ve also filmed tutorial videos for each step of the sock-making process!
